Abstract The paper describes the possible roles of the simulation and emulation in production planning and scheduling as well as in production control systems through a case study for optimizing the internal logistic system of a given production system. The study focuses on the control of a transportation unit and automated storage and retrieval system. A complex simulation study has been carried out to be able to analyze, improve and evaluate the control system. In our work, we analysed the influence of the scheduling methods currently applied in the (emulated) production system. Parallel to these scheduling methods, new techniques have been tested as well.
Key words production control, emulation, simulation, evaluating control systems, industrial case study
