Abstract
Design of Experiments can be applied in engineering experiment to evaluate the repeatability of the process and the effect of changing parameters with significant influence on it.
The process approach can be summarized by the following steps: (1) the identification of factors, (2) planning and conducting the experiments, (3) the prediction of optimum new levels of parameters and, finally, (4) validation of the results.
This paper proposes the use of the techniques of experimental design in order to identify the factors which influence the propagation speed of waves Lcr in structural aluminium alloy 7050, used in aeronautical applications.
An application in LabVIEWTM was developed for acquisition data and it was used the software MinitabTM to analyze the results. As factors influencing the speed were studied the temperature of the bar, the stress applied in the bar and the force applied to the probe.
The results showed that the design of experiments is an effective tool to support improvements in the process.
